Amazing Irazu volcano

The Irazú volcano is located in the central mountain rage of Costa Rica, It is considered the tallest volcano in the country. It is an amazing place, on a clear day, and from the western rim of the main crater at the summit, it is possible to see, with the naked eye, both oceans that bathe our shores and, with a telescope, Lake Nicaragua. Irazú volcano is a massive stratovolcano that showed its last explosive- eruption in 1994, however its major eruption caused heavy damage to infrastructure during 1963-65.

After an excited visit to the volcano, we will descend to Cartago, this town is known among Costarrican as the old metropolis, but during colonial times and beginning of the Republic this city was the Costa Rica’s Capital. One we get to downtown we will stop to see the ruins of Cartago’s church, right after we’ll go to the beautiful Basilica church home of our Virgin of Los Angeles… and then we will make our way back to San José.
